Xevitz, Guatemala

The village of Xevitz has a gravity-flow water system implemented by Agua Para La Salud. There are 150 children and 6 teachers that attend the Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Xevitz. Upon EWB-JAX’s arrival, the school already had 3 cabinet flush toilets that outputted to a seepage pit designed for the existing hand washing station (constructed by APS in 2002). These toilets needed repair and were not sufficient for the number of school children. The implemented project improved the conditions of the school by building an additional 2 cabinet latrine adjacent to the current latrine, a 1000 L storage tank, a septic tank, and a larger underground seepage pit to handle the grey water. The project team also repaired the original hand washing station and 3 cabinet latrine.
